Lake Celebrations!
On July 27, 1974 Jim and Elaine celebrated the wonderful date by having a party surrounded by their kids, grandkids and other loving family and friends.
Turns out that they had met when they were both lifeguards (great people to have at Duck Harbor) at Promised land State Park and got married at that same park the following year. They did not have a reception so we’re glad that they finally got to be celebrated as they should for the love that they have surrounded by people who love them.
They have been in this area since 1976 and have always lived within a 3 mile radius of Duck Harbor.
Cheers to another 50 years, Jim & Elaine!
Lou and Marianne Bednarz will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on September 12th this month. WOW!!!
They purchased their place on Duck Harbor in 1991, originally with two other people who weren’t “lake” people and eventually it became just theirs.
Not only have they raised four great kids, but they also have nine grandchildren! Needless to say when Lou & Marianne have their kids up, their house and property gets a lot smaller. Like most of us here at the lake, we all love it here and their kids grew to love it and now their grandkids love it as well.
Marianne likes to read and Lou likes to jet ski and ride around in his golf cart. They both love to ride around the lake in their pontoon boat playing music and a tradition that they have is every anniversary they skinny dip in the lake on their anniversary! No traditional gifts for them! They just need the magical waters of Duck Harbor.
Please join me in wishing one of the nicest couples I’ve met at Duck Harbor a very happy healthy anniversary and many, many more at Duck Harbor.
PS….I stopped Lou the other day when we were both in our golf carts and I asked him what’s his favorite thing about Duck Harbor???? He replied “skinny dipping!!”
Cheers to 60 years Lou and Marianne!
Skip Hillier turns 82 on September 2nd!
While turning 82 is a great accomplishment in itself, what makes Skips birthday special is we believe he is the oldest person living on the lake that still water skis.
If you know Skip, skiing is in his blood. He stated water skiing even before he got to Duck Harbor and once here he used to do all sorts of tricks: he would ski on canoe paddles, go barefoot, use a chair on the ski’s….. all the things you would never let your child do. To believe he survived all that and still enjoys the sport is pretty amazing.
The pictures are of skip skiing earlier in his life, then just a couple of days ago starting off from the dock and then skiing.
You will find Skip skiing at 10am on a glassy lake when he can and we all wish him a Happy Birthday!
