Did you know that Duck Harbor Pond used to be called Lookout, PA?

Yes, this is a TRUE story!

A post office called Lookout was established in 1889 right here off 191 just past the right hand turn to go to Callicoon, on your way to Equinunk.

When I was a kid growing up here in the summers, we used to make a trip to get our mail during the VERY limited hours they were open. Mail was sent to us at “Lookout, PA” and our return addresses had the same. Unfortunately, the Post office closed in 1969 and we now have “Equinunk” as our postal home.

I still like to refer to Duck Harbor Pond in Lookout PA and if you google it, you can still find reference to it, including a map, that is local.

The Post Office was in someone’s home (if my memory proves me right) which was next door to “Hellmer’s” store that sold penny candy. We were always certain they didn’t charge more because the candy we bought always seemed like last summer’s candy.

Hard as a rock! And we loved it!
